An educational nonprofit helping teens of all genders gain the skills, confidence, and experience to become top-tier babysitters, nannies, and “mannies”.
The Future Sitter's Club
Our Story
The FutureSitter’s Club was created to bridge the gap between teens interested in childcare and the professional skills they need to succeed. Many young caregivers start babysitting without proper guidance, leading to uncertainty and missed opportunities. By providing structured training, mentorship, and real-world experience, we give aspiring childcare professionals the tools to build confidence, develop essential skills, and even turn babysitting into a long-term career.
At the same time, we’re helping local families by connecting them with trained, responsible sitters—making date nights and childcare more accessible and affordable for parents of little ones. It’s a win-win: teens gain valuable experience, and families gain peace of mind knowing their children are in capable hands.
Our Core Values
Responsibility
We show up, follow through, and take our role seriously—because kids and families count on us. Whether we’re planning activities, keeping children safe, or communicating with parents, we understand the trust placed in us and rise to meet that responsibility with integrity and care.
Empathy
We care deeply about others, listen well, and treat all children and families with kindness and respect. We believe empathy is the foundation of great caregiving—helping us respond to each child’s needs with patience, compassion, and understanding.
Growth
We’re always learning—from mentors, experiences, and even our mistakes. We don’t expect perfection. Instead, we value curiosity, reflection, and the willingness to grow. Every challenge is a chance to improve, and we support each other through that journey.
Confidence
We believe in our ability to make good choices, solve problems, and be a calm, capable presence for children and families. Through hands-on experience, learning, and support, we build the kind of confidence that helps us show up strong—in babysitting and beyond.
Community
We support each other, celebrate each other, and know that we’re stronger together. Whether we’re learning side by side, helping a family, or encouraging a fellow sitter, we believe in building a community where everyone feels welcome, seen, and valued.

Meet the Founders
Teresa Thurmond-President
I’ve been in childcare for 13 years, starting as a teen nanny and spending over a decade in the field before transitioning to birth work. Now, as a full-spectrum doula and newborn care specialist, I mostly care for newborns—but my passion for mentorship led me to create The Future Sitter’s Club. Through my own experience, I’ve seen firsthand how early training and mentorship can shape confident, capable caregivers. As president, I want to give teens the resources I wish I had, helping them gain confidence, skills, and experience in childcare. I believe that with the right support, teens can gain not just babysitting experience, but a real foundation for a future in professional childcare—or wherever their path may lead. I’m so excited to see this program grow and bring the community closer together!
Cory Huisman-Treasurer
I’ve been working in childcare for 36 years—starting as a neighborhood babysitter, then nannying through college, and later running a licensed in-home childcare business when my now-grown kids were little. These days, I nanny for a family with three children under five. Over the years, friends have often asked me where teens can get hands-on babysitting experience, but I never had a great answer—until I learned about The Future Sitter’s Club. I was so excited to see someone finally creating the kind of program our community has needed, and I knew I wanted to be involved. I joined as the treasurer and have been helping shape the curriculum ever since. I hope teens come away from this program excited about the new skills they have learned, confident in their abilities, and having fun while doing it.
Zoe Levin-Secretary
I’ve been working with kids since I was 13 and now bring over 16 years of experience in childcare and education. I started as a babysitter and later became a preschool assistant in high school, then majored in Early Childhood Education. I’ve taught preschool, kindergarten, and special education, and currently work as a home care aide. I joined The FutureSitter’s Club to help build a community where teens and families support and learn from one another. I’m excited to help teens gain confidence and practical skills they can use in childcare and beyond. I especially love bringing creativity into caregiving—through outdoor play, arts and crafts, and cooking.
